Donegal is fast becoming one of Europe's top surfing destinations with its powerful Atlantic breakers. Sturdy, well planned jetties, marinas and slipways give easy access for boating, windsurfing and waterskiing. Pollan Bay is renowned for it forceful surf and is one of the top 10 surfs to be experienced in Ireland.

With expert fishing centers and a host of highly equipped and dedicated charter boats, this region has become a Mecca for anglers from all over the world. Deep sea angling is renowned for its quality and variety especially shark and blue fin tuna. Shore fishing for mullet, pollock and flounder and fresh water river fishing for salmon and brown trout, remain as popular as ever.


With a host of small fishing ports and marinas dotted throughout the northwest, it an ideal location for leisure sailing. Fahan Marina, a modern facility located on Lough Swilly approx. 5km south of Buncrana, is the main docking point with a capacity for 400 yachts of various sizes.


Inishowen has been a Mecca for divers for many years as it is surrounded by many wreck including THE FAMOUS La Trinidad Valencera of the Spanish Armada, which foundered in 1588, The Laurentic which lies in Lough Swilly and sunk carrying fountune of golf to repay British War Debts.

Wildlife & Birdwatching

Inishowen is recognized internationally as a Wildlife Conservation Map especially Burt, Inch Isalnd, Trawbreaga Bay, Lough Swilly and Lough Foyle. Thousands of species, including in illusive Corncrake can be observed and photographed in the region. Numerous wildlife groups visit regularly and organised tours can be arranged lead by qualified Wildlife Guides.

Horse Riding

Excellent equestrian centers offer qualified instructors for all ages and abilities and daily trails that take you trekking pathways by beaches, hillsides and lakes.
